The Histopathology laboratory was established and commissioned on the 4th of February 2021 by First Lady of Meru County her H.E Priscilla Murungi and managing Director International Cancer Institute Prof. Chite Asirwa. 

Histopathology is the branch of pathology that studies the changes in tissue caused by disease.

A histopathology laboratory process samples that have been removed surgically or during autopsy and examines them microscopically to determine the underlying disease(s). The diagnosis obtained help the clinician to manage the disease(s).

So far a big number of biopsies have been dissected.  Previously the samples were taken to Agha Khan Hospital in Nairobi and other labs for testing therefore  turnaround time was prolonged.

The laboratory has  reduced the turnaround time to few days and at the same time reduced  cost  incurred  by  the patients greatly thereby  improving overall patient management
