CRITICAL CARE NURSE

Job Purpose

The Critical Care Nurse will report to the Clinical Executive Nursing Services (CENS) and will be responsible for providing specialized nursing care to critically ill patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and High Dependency Unit (HDU), ensuring optimal patient outcomes through advanced monitoring and intervention.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Provide comprehensive critical care nursing to patients in ICU/HDU.
  2. Monitor and interpret vital signs, cardiac rhythms, and other advanced monitoring parameters.
  3. Administer specialized medications including inotropes and emergency drugs as prescribed.
  4. Operate and monitor life-support equipment including ventilators.
  5. Respond promptly to medical emergencies and initiate life-saving interventions.
  6. Maintain accurate and detailed patient records.
  7. Educate patients’ families on care plans and prognosis.
  8. Adhere strictly to infection prevention and control standards.

Qualifications and Experience

  1. Diploma in Kenya Registered Nursing or Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing from a recognized institution.
  2. Post-basic qualification in Critical Care Nursing.
  3. Registration Certificate and valid practicing license from the Nursing Council of Kenya.
  4. Certificate in computer applications.
  5. At least two (2) years’ experience in a busy ICU/HDU setting.

MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNOLOGIST

Job Purpose
The Medical Laboratory Technologist will be reporting to the Laboratory Services Manager and will be responsible for performing diagnostic laboratory tests to support disease diagnosis, treatment, and prevention. The officer will ensure quality laboratory services by adhering to established protocols, safety standards, and professional ethics.

 Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Receive, label, and analyse patient specimens in accordance with set procedures and standards.
  2. Perform diagnostic tests in haematology, microbiology, histology, biochemistry, immunology, and other relevant laboratory disciplines.
  3. Ensure proper use, calibration, and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
  4. Implement internal quality control and participate in external quality assurance programmes.
  5. Maintain accurate records of all laboratory tests and results.
  6. Ensure safe handling and disposal of laboratory waste and hazardous materials.
  7. Prepare and submit regular reports on laboratory activities.
  8. Maintain adequate stocks of laboratory reagents and supplies and report shortages.
  9. Participate in research and continuous professional development activities.
  10. Observe infection prevention and control measures in all laboratory processes.

 Qualifications and Experience

  1. Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences from a recognized institution.
  2. Registration Certificate from the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board (KMLTTB).
  3. Valid practicing license from KMLTTB.
  4. Certificate in computer applications from a recognized institution.
  5. At least two (2) years relevant work experience in a busy diagnostic laboratory.

 THEATRE TECHNOLOGIST

Job Purpose

To assist in the preparation and maintenance of operating theatres and support surgical teams to ensure safe and effective surgical procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Sterilization of surgical instruments and equipment’s.
  2. Preparation of surgical packs and maintaining their proper storage.
  3. Cleaning and disinfecting of surgical instruments.
  4. Cleaning the operating room and equipment.
  5. Ensure sterility and infection prevention standards are maintained.
  6. Maintain accurate theatre records and inventory.

Qualifications and Experience

  1. Diploma in Theatre Technology from a recognized institution.
  2. At least six months experience in a busy theatre setting.
  3. Certificate in computer applications from a recognized institution.

ORTHOPAEDIC TECHNOLOGIST

To provide technical support in orthopedic services including application and removal of casts, traction, and orthopedic appliances.

Qualifications and Experience

  1. Diploma in Orthopedic Technology.

  4. At least two (2) years’ experience in a busy orthopedic unit.
  5. Certificate in computer applications from a recognized institution.

INVENTORY CLERKS

Job Purpose

The Inventory Clerk will be responsible for tracking of incoming and outgoing stock, updating inventory systems, and conducting regular audit to ensure accuracy of inventory in wards.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Receive, inspect, label and record receipt of medical supplies and consumables;
  2. Update inventory logs and database regularly.
  3. Ensure requested commodities and procedures are updated on patient’s chargesheets and file.
  4. Issuance of pharms and non-pharms on basis of patient orders.
  5. Conduct routine stock count and reconcile discrepancies.
  6. Monitor stock levels and report shortages or surpluses.
  7. Coordinate with procurement team for timely stock replenishment.
  8. Maintain organized storage areas for easy item retrieval.
  9. Responsible and accountable for the commodities in storage.
  10. Generate inventory reports as requested by the management.

Qualifications and Experience

  1. Certificates in Theatres Technology, Nursing Assistants or any other health related field.
  2. Proficiency in hospital information systems is an added advantage.
  3. Certificate in computer applications from a recognized institution.
  4. At least two (2) years’ experience in a hospital setting.
  5. Strong attention to details and accuracy.
  6. Good communication and organizational skills.

PHARMACEUTICAL TECHNOLOGIST

Job Purpose
The Pharmaceutical Technologist will be answerable to the Head of Pharmacy for dispensing medicines, counselling patients on medication use, and ensuring safe, efficacious, and cost-effective pharmaceutical services in accordance with applicable laws, policies, and standards.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Receive, interpret, and process prescriptions accurately.
  2. Dispense medicines and pharmaceutical products to patients and advise on their safe and effective use.
  3. Maintain appropriate storage conditions for medicines and other pharmaceutical supplies.
  4. Monitor medicine usage and report adverse drug reactions.
  5. Maintain stock control, conduct routine stock-taking, and prepare requisitions for replenishment.
  6. Ensure compliance with Good Dispensing Practices (GDP) and Good Storage Practices (GSP).
  7. Maintain accurate patient medication records and pharmacy transaction logs.
  8. Participate in health education on rational drug use for patients and staff.
  9. Prepare and submit regular reports on pharmacy operations.
  10. Comply with infection prevention and control procedures in the pharmacy.

 Qualifications and Experience

  1. Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology from a recognized institution.
  2. Registration Certificate from the Pharmacy and Poisons Board of Kenya.
  3. Valid practicing license from the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.
  4. At least two (2) years relevant work experience in a busy pharmacy or healthcare facility.
  5. Computer literacy and knowledge of pharmaceutical management systems will be an added advantage.

REGISTERED CLINICAL OFFICER

Job Purpose
The Registered Clinical Officer will be responsible for providing quality clinical healthcare services through patient assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management of diseases and health conditions.

Duties and Responsibilities

The officer will report to the Clinical Officer Incharge and will be responsible for:

  1. Providing clinical healthcare through history taking, physical examination, investigations, diagnosis, treatment, and management of diseases and conditions.
  2. Implementing community healthcare activities in collaboration with other healthcare workers.
  3. Sensitizing patients and clients on preventive and promotive health practices.
  4. Participating in ward rounds and implementing patient care plans.
  5. Documenting patient data and ensuring proper utilization for improved healthcare outcomes.
  6. Participating in training and mentoring of students.

Qualifications and Experience

  1. Diploma in Clinical Medicine & Surgery or Clinical Medicine & Community Health from a recognized institution.
  2. Certificate of Registration from a relevant professional body.
  3. Valid practicing license.
  4. Proficiency in computer applications.
  5. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  6. Technical competence in clinical practice.
  7. Good decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  8. High standards of professional ethics and integrity.
  9. Emotional intelligence and ability to work under pressure.

MEDICAL SOCIAL WORKER

Job Purpose
The Medical Social Worker will be answerable to the Head of Social Work Services for providing psychosocial support to patients and their families, facilitating access to social services, and enhancing patient well-being during treatment and recovery.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Assess patients’ social, emotional, and financial needs to develop appropriate support plans.
  2. Provide counselling to patients and their families to help them cope with illness, hospitalization, or bereavement.
  3. Facilitate discharge planning, including linking patients with community-based support services.
  4. Advocate for patients’ rights and access to necessary social and healthcare resources.
  5. Coordinate with medical teams to address non-medical factors affecting patient care.
  6. Conduct home visits where necessary to assess living conditions and support needs.
  7. Prepare and maintain accurate case records and reports.
  8. Participate in community outreach programmes to promote health and wellness.
  9. Support patients in accessing financial aid, insurance, and government social support programmes.
  10. Participate in training, research, and continuous professional development activities.

Qualifications and Experience

  1. Diploma in Medical Social Work or a related field from a recognized institution.
  2. Registration with Kenya Medical Social Workers Association (KEMSWA).
  3. At least two (2) years relevant work experience in a healthcare or social service setting.
  4. Certificate in computer applications from a recognized institution.
  5. Counselling skills and training will be an added advantage.
  6. Strong communication, advocacy, and problem-solving skills.
